It seems Huddersfield Town are now on the search for new opponents for their bi-annual cup final. Following the promotion of their pretend rivals Leeds United and Town's disastrous Play-off campaign that ended in defeat at Millwall last night. The Terriers are now without a fixture that will attract enough fans to fill their soul-less, flat pack stadium next season.
It seems not even another Play-off campaign will suffice either, as only 12,500 'Terriers' found their biggest game of the season worth getting out of bed for last weekend. Although a respectable figure for such a small town, it was dwarfed by the 17,500 home fans that witnessed an early kick of with Leeds United back in February. Although this is a regular theme nationwide, with local rivalries attracting lots of interest, most teams tend to get their biggest crowds for big end of season matches.
With this in mind, Town's directors have released the following statement;
PLAY AT THE GALPHARM
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Huddersfield Town do not anticipate a capacity crowd at The Galpharm Stadium next season, or indeed the foreseeable future. To this end, 'Town are now on the look-out for a local team to contest two highly competitive matches, that are to be staged at our home ground between August 2010 and May 2011. The opponent team does not need to be that of a professional football club but must wear an all white kit on matchday. It is also preferable if the team in question can cope with Huddersfield Town trying 25% harder than in any other matches.
We hope that this initiative will ensure a 'full house' at The Galpharm and maintain supporter interest, in what is likely to be a largely uneventful season.
If you, or anybody you know currently run a local football team and would like to take part in Huddersfield Town v Leeds United A Local Team, please forward your details to;

And yet here you are, writing an article about someone you don't care about?
ReplyDeleteGive me a minute, I'm off to write an article about Gillingham's relegation, just to tell them I don't care about them.
BOOOOOOOOOOOORING
ReplyDeletehahaha! Brilliant!

I think we do care about them, but in a sort of "greenfly" way - they're quite annoying, but you don't think about them when they're not there. :)
ReplyDeleteHTAFC are one of the most small minded teams I've ever seen - they'll see this, and probably spunk over the fact they've been mentioned on a Leeds site. "IT PROOVEZ WE'RE STILL HOOGE RIVALZ N STUFFZ, DEY H8 US, DEY HAV NO RIVALRY WIV MAN YOO". They need to focus on supporting their own team, instead of supporting whoeever we're playing. Perhaps the 5,000 that turned up just to watch Leeds proves that you really are more interested in us than your own little tinpot side.
I'll do it. Do I need any team-mates?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant i couldnt agree with you more. who are Huddersfield anyway?
ReplyDeleteI think you'll find most Town fans count Sadford as our main rivals, so don't flatter yourself petal. the extra few that turn up just to sing we all hate leeds scum are local hoolies, not fans. But I suppose this is what leeds like, spouting bullshit, hows your Champions League medal looking? oh wait you made that up too...
ReplyDelete''Brilliant i couldnt agree with you more. who are Huddersfield anyway?''
ReplyDeleteErr...the team you just read about and wrote about. Are all your fans stupid? If you want to tell us something, tell us the last time you won a league game in Huddersfield (Apart from the ones when you had to camp at Leeds Road when you were banned from playing at your own skip due to your fans being naughty) Enjoy your day out at Scunthorpe.
I thought you lot didn't give a chuff about Huddersfield? looks a bit different to me. Not alot of people really care, so don't give up the day job.
ReplyDeleteWhose Cup Final???? Highest League attendance (36,723) before the last match of the season was against??? Average League attendance was 24,817...
ReplyDeleteIt was YOUR cup final, so let's have a less...

I live in bradford and a life long leeds Utd fan !!!!. Could someone tell me where Huddersfield is? I heard some idot say 'Huddersfield Town are local rivals of the might whites?
ReplyDeleteOh the irony of this blog!
ReplyDeleteNo matter how hard you shake that tiny little head of yours, those pesky hudders just won't go away, will they?
'Enjoy your day out at Scunthorpe.'
ReplyDeleteYeah you're right, we're going to be going to some right shit holes in the Championship compared to your big day outs in League 1...
The fact is, I wanted Hudds to go up, its a good local derby and always attracts good attendances. That and the fact I hate Millwall. Ah well, here's to Swindon doing a job at Wembley.
im a leds fn, wts all dis abwt, i h8 da hddasfeild fckers, grr
ReplyDeleteNever heard so much crap in all my life. Couldn't careless about Leeds to be honest, and i find it ammusing that Leeds fans a) think we do, and b) seem to be the ones that talk about us all the time. Maybe if Leeds concentrated on themselves abit more then they wouldn't have gone bust. Leeds fans only ever cheer when they are winning, typical glory hunters. If Leeds are such a big club then why did Cantona jump ship, Ferdinand jump ship? Stop chatting rubbish for god sake
ReplyDeletejust wanted to add, whats Leeds' record against Town like??? I hear dit was crap. Nice stadium by the way
ReplyDeleteLeeds fan for 30 years and embarrassed by articles like this. We know how disappointing the play-offs can be. Also, the name of this web page is an embarrassment to Leeds - "Dirty Leeds"? - perpetuating anti-Leeds media.
ReplyDeletei heard here in Brazil there changing the name of huddersfield to new Bangladesh, thats why they only get 5000 the rest are taking there turn sleeping in there beds.Brazilian whites

ReplyDeletejelousy will get you no where have a nice trip down to league 2 as all your players are going leave now, starting with roberts who is signing for leeds
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!....Huddersfield the 'Yorkshirr Team'.... more like the 'Yorkshire DREAM'!!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy League 1 losers
i'm a leeds fan and i believe that the games against Huddersfield town are big games. Can none of you see their our local rivals? Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool don't care about us anymore! We're just an average club now thanks to master bates. Also can i ask what our biggest home league crowd of the season was after the last game? obviously i'm not alone in my thoughts!
ReplyDeleteYou're blamin Bates rather than Ridsdale?
ReplyDeleteYou're right, our biggest gate of the season was the last game, the game that was a potential promotion game. Town obviously thought that the Leeds game was a bigger game than their most important game in years... thats the point!
And Man U don't care about us, believe me living in Manchester and in attendance at Old Trafford in January, you are mistaken.
there was no game after the last game fellow. of course a yorkshire derby will bring more fans to the stadium. So next season in the Championship we will experience that more.
